Feudi di San Gregorio offers an annual presentation of the new vintages of the Selections line with a tasting reserved for journalists, bloggers and influencers. The format is extremely practical and efficient: a few days beforehand, the wines are received in an elegant wooden box with a few gifts that denote great attention to detail, then on the agreed day and time we all connect and discover the wines together. This year the tasting was conducted by Pierpaolo Sirch of Simonit & Sirch, the brilliant men who 'talk to the vines' thanks to their cutting-edge pruning.

Feudi di San Gregorio: a few notes on the winery

Feudi di San Gregorio is a great reality of southern Italy that exports its wines to more than 50 countries around the world. In 1986, in Irpinia - that mountainous, rainy and often snowy area of central Campania so different from the stereotypical image of southern Italy - its story began. Native grape varieties, centuries-old vines and human capital are the foundations that have made this company a theatre of beauty, understood not only as an aesthetic vision, but also as a sustainable commitment. This was expressed in the transformation of Feudi di San Gregorio into a charitable company in 2011.

"This gives rise to many initiatives, such as our Winegrowing Protocol, developed with cutting-edge research institutes and aimed at protecting the biodiversity of the territories and cultivating vineyards in a respectful manner, our programme for winegrowers, or our actions to minimise the consumption of resources: from the full use of renewable sources for our energy needs, to the recovery and recycling of rainwater, to reducing the environmental impact of our packaging, to our commitment to achieve climate neutrality.

Feudi di San Gregorio: wine previews

"San Greg' Campania Rosato IGT 2023

100% aglianico | steel | online shop price € 18

Company Notes. This critically acclaimed wine originates in the highest hills of Irpinia (700 m a.s.l.) from vineyards rooted in marly calcareous and marly arenaceous soils that are well exposed to the sun and very well ventilated. Manual harvesting and soft crushing for a wine that ferments and matures in steel.

My tasting. It is bright coral pink, consistent. The nose is delicate with notes of wild strawberry, white chocolate and jasmine flowers. In the mouth it is consistent, fresh, very acidic, structured and with an almost salty finish that makes you salivate. Excellent drinkability. Perfect as an aperitif with cheese and fatty fish such as Brie and canapés with butter and smoked salmon.

"Pietracalda' Fiano di Avellino DOCG Riserva 2022

100% fiano | steel | online shop price € 15

Company Notes. From the best vineyards, we chose the best Fiano grapes. Thus was born Pietracalda
of the 'Selections' line, reserved for the best restaurants and wine shops. The bottle that dresses it, conceived by the genius of Massimo Vignelli, is the elegant and dynamic image of a glass that comes to life as it envelops the wine, taking the form of subtle continuous waves all around.

My tasting. It is bright straw yellow with greenish hues, consistent. The nose is delicate with notes of tropical fruit, citron grass and lime blossom. In the mouth it is consistent, warm, very savoury, structured and with a long, salivating finish. Perfect with a risotto with langoustines and shellfish in general.

"Cutizzi' Greco di Tufo DOCG Riserva 2022

100% Greek | steel | Online Shop Price € 14

Company Notes. From the best vineyards rooted in chalky soils, we chose the best Greco grapes. Thus was born the Cutizzi of the 'Selezioni' line, reserved for the best restaurants and wine shops. The bottle that dresses it, conceived by the genius of Massimo Vignelli, is the elegant and dynamic image of a glass that comes to life as it envelops the wine, taking the form of subtle continuous waves all around.

My tasting. It is a deep, bright straw yellow with greenish reflections, consistent. The nose is delicate and elegant with sulphurous notes that fade into vanilla, candied pear, sage and lemon zest. In the mouth it enters coherently, much more balanced, fresh, savoury, quite soft, less alcoholic than Pietracalda and therefore more pleasant to drink. Perfect with omelettes and omelettes, vegetables and fish such as squid and cuttlefish.

Feudi di San Gregorio and art

Massimo Vignelli, Milanese by birth and New Yorker by adoption, was a great 20th century designer exhibited at MoMA and other important contemporary art museums. In 2001 he began working with Feudi di San Gregorio to revolutionise the company's image in a way that was never banal. The quality of the details - the choice of colours, the sharpness of the mosaics, the shading of hot gold - together with the innovation of a very reduced size compared to traditional wine labels and a dominant 'less is more', have made the labels unique and very identifiable and have the ability to stand out on any shelf. Not only the labels: Vignelli created the interiors of the winery, the stands for trade fairs, some packaging and company publications.

Love for art is a fundamental value of Feudi di San Gregorio, so much so that they have developed collaborations with prominent artists, architects and photographers such as Fabio Novembre, Hikaru Mori and Maurizio Zito, Vedovamazzei, Marinella Senatore and Mimmo Jodice.
